The Vaporiter consists of an accumulator tank with a boil-out coil. Warm, high-pressure liquid ammonia from the receiver flows through the boil-out coil, where it is cooled on its way to the ice machines. This cooling of the liquid ammonia improves the efficiency of the ice making system by reducing the amount of flash-gas in the ice machine, thereby increasing ice capacity. During normal operation, any liquid ammonia reaching the Vaporiter will be evaporated. In the event of a malfunction resulting in excessive liquid ammonia carry over, the Vaporiter's high-level safety control will shut down the system, thus eliminating costly repairs to the compressor.
